Ribbon Cutting

Ribbon Cutting

Riverside Hospital will soon be moving to a freestanding facility on Heyman Lane. Construction began in May of last year on the new 28 bed hospital that serves long term acute care patients.

Riverside opened its doors in 2002 inside Rapides Regional Medical Center. Next month the Hospital will begin accepting patients at the new facility. Members of the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce joined hospital staff on Wednesday to officially cut the ribbon for the new building.
The hospital cares for patients who need more time to heal from sickness and injury.

"We cater to a subset of patients that require hospitalization, daily physician care interaction and a high utilization of nurses usually for about a month," said Kemp Wright, Senior Vice President of Priority Hospital Group. "They're patients typically coming out of ICU or patients who have been ventilated or patients who have had some acute onset of multiple things that require them to be hospitalized for about a month."

The hospital is located in Yorktown Properties near the intersection of Heyman Lane and Bayou Rapides Road. Exposure to the public is something Wright said has been a bit of a problem.

"It allows us to be more aware in the public, let people know that we're here and let people know that this level of care exists in Alexandria," Kemp said. "That's been a little bit of the down side of being inside Rapides is that no one knew that we really existed and that this level of service was available to them."

Kemp also said that the move to a new building will be a big advantage for their employees.

"It really gives our employees something to be proud of," Kemp said. "They work really hard and we're really tickled to be able to let them work [where] they can be proud."
